The
bullpen was empty when Lt. Colonel Sarah Mackenzie made her way to
her office. It was still early and she didn't expect anyone to be
there. She had had trouble sleeping and decided that she might as
well get something done. Walking into her office she flipped the
light switch and continued on walking when she noticed something
sitting on her desk. It was an envelope with her name written on it.
It was typed so it was impossible to know from the hand writing who
had left it, but she knew and was almost afraid to open it. He had to
have left it there after she had left the day before. She slowly put
her breifcase on the floor and sat down in her chair. Suddenly she
was glad she had come in early. She finally decided she wanted to
know what was inside the envelope and reached for it. She hesitated a
moment longer before opening it, finding a pink coloured card
decorated with roses. Inside she found a poem.
I think this
all started in the Rose Garden that day,
when
you came into my life I didn't know what to say.
I will admit that
she was what I saw,
But when I saw your smile, my walls began to thaw.
During all our years you've helped me through the worst,
and at the same time, in my life you became what came first.
No matter the situation, you held my back and I held yours,
knowing
that we would keep each other safe with all possible force.
You
tried to tell me you wanted me for me
and I turned you down
because I could not see.
Then I tried to right my right my wrong,
and make us fly
but then you had moved on, it was too late to try.
I
have now decided to give us a second chance,
to no longer waste
our lives in this stupid dance.
My heart I give, and hope you feel
the same way too.
This
time nothing can stop me from saying 'I love You'.
Mac
felt the tears fill her eyes but she didn't even try to blink them
away. She re-read the poem and stood up moving towards the door of
her office. She intended to go to the ladies room, but saw movement
coming from his office, even though it was completely dark. Maybe he
hadn't put it there yesterday after all. She made her way over there
and found him sitting in his chair, waiting for her. For a long time
they just stood there looking at each other, then he moved towards
her and pulled her closer so he could kiss her. They stood that way
for what seemed like an eternity. Finally they broke the kiss to get
some air. He looked her in the eye.
"So... You like your
present?" he asked.
"The best one ever... But I didn't
get you anything..."
"Yes you did. That kiss was
amazing."
"That it was. Want to try again?"
He
didn't bother to answer. Instead he pulled her closer again. But
before he could continue what he had planned she stopped him.
"And
Harm..."
"Yeah?"
"I love you too..."
