Christmas yet to come
Harm hurried down the hospital corridor. He was worried sick about her. When was Christmas going to be a happy time for him? He gripped the bag in his hands a little tighter as he asked the duty nurse for the room number. She had to be okay, right? She wouldn’t have asked him to pick up some clean clothes if she wasn’t! Still, he’d relax after he saw her.
“You came!” Mac exclaimed sounding way too relieved. She was sitting upright in bed in one of those pale yellowish hospital gowns.
“You asked for me.” He stated matter of factly assured that she wasn’t about to die.
“Yeah, but I though you might be at the church or the wall.” She shivered slightly.
“I was.” He answered softly as he handed her the requested grey sweat shirt and helped to pull it over her head.
“I’m sorry.” She sighed miserably.
“Mac, no.” He brushed her hair from her face and ended up cupping her cheek. He made sure he had her attention before he said; “ I told you I would always be there for you.”
She looked rather pale and on the verge of crying so he slid next to her onto the bed.
Mac let him wrap his arms around her before leaning in to snuggle.
“Yeah,” She sighed sadly. “You’re a real good friend. You’d have dropped everything if it had been Bud or Sturgis laying here.”
Harm ran his fingers through her hair and chuckled before he whispered.
“I wouldn’t be doing ‘this’ if it had been Bud or Sturgis.”
Mac smiled and briefly looked up before snuggling closer.
“That’s because I’m a girl.” She pretended to pout.
Harm rested his head on hers. “My girl.” He whispered and sighed happily as he felt Mac nod against his shoulder.
